![]() Why I’m Writing 1 Song Everyday for 1 Year Songs do not need to be professionally mixed and mastered as radio-ready gems (I mean, duh)Īll music must be original (unless it’s a cover, in which case it must be an original rendition and noticeably different from the original) Songs can include singing or can be just instrumental Style, instrument use and tools are open and flexible (guitar, MIDI, capturing sounds outside – anything goes) I need to post the new song by midnight of each dayĬollaborations are OK (as long as I do at least half of the songwriting) They need to have at least the core structure – including the main intro verse, chorus and top line melodiesĮveryday needs to be different, new song (no repeats or second sections of the same song)Ĭover songs are OK – as long as they’re original renditions or have some unique take on the original version that makes it sound quite different They do not need to be full 2-3 minute-long songs Alternatively, feel free to call me out should I fail on any of these…hah…īut that won’t happen! :) Writing One Song Everyday for One Year: The Rules Simply put, writing a song everyday for one year is pretty self explanatory.īut let’s lay out some specifics – some ground rules.įeel free to run with these rules yourself if you’re feeling inspired. So, What Are the Rules to This ‘ 365 Days of Music’ Song Challenge? So yea, this post is all about what the challenge is (i.e., my “rules”), why I’m doing it and how I plan on making it happen.Īnd of course, if you’re keen to follow along in my songwriting and traveling adventures, you can find me here or on my main socials (linked just below). It’s a great test of my discipline (or lack thereof…). I’ve never committed to anything like this. ![]() But really, I’m just pysched to commit to a full 365 days or writing and sharing music. There are a few reasons (discussed below), but mainly it’s just intuition (and perhaps an overzealous new year’s mind). Once I hit that publish button, this article sort of materializes the idea into reality - no turning back!īut there are tons of songwriter challenges, so why choose this one? It’s a challenge I’ve seen others do before (I’m definitely not the first), and I’ve always thought about trying it myself – but I’ve never really considered it too seriously. I’ll be writing and posting one new song everyday for one year (while also traveling about). ![]() So, I’ve decided to do the song a day challenge - for the whole year. We’re 2 days shy of 2023, and I need a creative challenge. I’m sitting in a Starbucks outside Tokyo right now as I write this post.
